Smile Savers Mobile Dental Health Service
An on-site mobile dental service for the underserved population in Kalamazoo, MI and surrounding counties.
Smile Savers provides preventative dental services that are delivered to patients in various environments. Juvenile and nursing homes, assisted living facilities, homeless shelter, homebound individuals and preschool classrooms are places where Smile Savers has provided dental services. Services include cleanings, assessments, fluoride varnish, sealants, silver diamine fluoride treatment, tobacco cessation, nutritional counseling and dental education sessions.
During years of working in the dental field, the lack of dental services available for those who are unable to receive dental treatment in a traditional office setting and those receiving state funded dental insurance, became apparent. Operating since 2014, Smile Savers was created to address the issue of limited access to dental care for certain populations in the community. Lack of or low oral health literacy contributes to poor oral health which affects overall health.
