For more than 45 years, the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center has seen many children and families thrive because of our comprehensive primary care services and quality health programs. What makes the Health Center special is that we serve everyone regardless of their ability to pay, the language they speak, or their immigration history.
We provide comprehensive primary care for children and adults. Our services include internal medicine, OB/GYN, pediatrics, dental care and mental health. Our patients can also get access to support services such as health insurance enrollment counseling, social work services, health education, nutrition counseling, care coordination, and chronic disease management.

The Health Center started in 1971 when a group of volunteers organized the Chinatown Health Fair, the first health fair held in the streets of New York City's Chinatown. Following the tremendous community response to the 10-day event, volunteers established a program that could meet the community's ongoing needs for affordable and accessible healthcare. The program, known then as the Chinatown Health Clinic, opened its doors to the community in the fall of 1971 and operated out of space donated by a local church with volunteer doctors, nurses, social workers, and students who provided free services three times a week. Volunteers also served as escorts and translators for patients who needed follow-up care at local hospitals.
Today, the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center and a NCQA Level III Patient-Centered Medical Home, operates in five locations in Lower Manhattan and in Flushing, Queens. What makes the Health Center special is that we accept most major health insurance plans and serve everyone regardless of their ability to pay, the language they speak, or their immigration status. In 2018, we provided services to more than 61,000 patients for over 308,000 patient visits.
